Spokane Quilt Show

I went to the Washington State Quilters show in Spokane, WA last weekend.  I didn't get as many pics as I would like.  I was so overwhelmed and trying to take everything in.  It's a huge show, over 500 quilts in a large venue.  I was going to go back and take more pics, but after being at the show several hours and facing a three hour drive back home we headed out.  Here are some pics I took for assorted reasons including design, color, quilting, incredible piecing, etc.  I didn't take time to get straight pics or full pics, just snapped a quickie with my phone and moved on!

Finished a Quilt!

I still haven't gotten caught up on sharing pics of projects I have been working on, but I pre-entered two quilts in a quilt show that was this weekend.  One was done and the other was just a top!  I worked hard last weekend and into mid week and finished it!  It is a Judy Niemeyer paper pieced pattern called Crown of Thorns.  Nothing like a little pressure!  The other quilt I entered was my green/lime/black quilt shown here.

I was surprised to receive a first place ribbon in machine quilting, non-professional!  It matches the quilt!

My daughter's "twin" is having a baby in June.  They met their freshman year in high school and found out they had the same birthday.  Lisa bought this panel (and coordinating backing) and I machine quilted it, going around the animals.

 These are blocks I started at quilt camp in early March.  They are distorted from the camera angle and the brown carpet does nothing for them!  I haven't touched them since, I have some of the arcs pieced.

I did a bit of stash enhancement at the quilt show today, buying some Kaffe fabrics and found a grouping of bright fabrics that I REALLY wanted, but I need to plan a quilt and then drive to that shop.  I came home with lots of inspiration from the show!

Design Wall Monday New Projects and a Finish!

My design wall is exactly the same (I MUST finish those two charity tops), but I did finish a quilt last week!  I had pre-entered it in the Palouse Patchers quilt show that was held this past weekend in Moscow, ID.  Entering it was my motivation to finish the quilt and it was down to the wire, but I made it.  I drove the quilt and a friend's entries to Moscow Friday.  I attended the show Saturday and didn't even get a picture of the quilt hanging!  My friend brought the entries back Sunday night and I was shocked to see two ribbons hanging on the quilt!

Ribbons won - First in Piecing and Second in Machine Quilting

I fell in love with this quilt by Debbie Goetz.  She called it Bubble Gum and the pattern is called Cotton Candy Dots 2 by Amelie Scott.  I love the simplicity of the pattern with the random dots appliqued on which were added by Debbie.

 At the Quilted Posies booth I found this aqua /grayish brown bundle of FQ's.  I purchased the fabric on the right at the Island Quilter booth and 3 of the coral/orange fabrics and had the remaining 3 corals in my stash.  The fabrics at the top I removed from the pile and will be on the back of the quilt.  They were too distracting to me.  I am so anxious to make this quilt!

However I will be going to a quilt retreat this coming weekend and decided to actually read the directions for cutting out my Fire Island Hosta quilt pattern.  I am using this selection of fabrics.  I added a few more and changed one my last post about the quilt.  The light fabric is a mottled Nancy Crow gray I have had in my stash for years.  I now have most of it cut out.

Quilt a day #43

I went to a quilt show in Clarkston today and put a few pics on my webshots account. I was taking inspirational photos of black and white quilts and 30's quilts. I usually take more photos at a show but I kept running into people I knew and getting distracted. I didn't buy a thing, which is unfortunate for the vendors, but nothing grabbed me and I have a lot of fabric and UFO's!

When I got home from the show I took a photo of my tulips. It was cool and windy so they weren't open. My son had parked his sister's car in front of the house so I had to take a side view! Later on I will plant petunias between the crocuses and tulips. This quilt is a Yellow Brick Road I made for my friend Joann several years ago when she graduated from college.
