Quilting Catch Up - 5 months really?

I seriously cannot believe I have not made a blog post in 5 months.  I wasn't reading blogs either, but I am trying to catch up.  I got in a funk and it was hard to focus.  Instagram is more instant and easier to share so most pics are posted there.  Winter is not my favorite time of the year and with holidays and being busy, I just forgot my blog.  We did get to go to Kentucky the week of Thanksgiving to see our daughter, husband and twin grandkids.  Our other daughter and 3 kids came up right after Christmas in between blizzards! 

I really have been quilting, but it doesn't seem like it!  Going back through my pictures I realized there is more than I thought!  Be prepared for photos!

Brown Bag mystery from last year called Double the Fun.  I still haven't added a border!

I don't remember the name of this pattern, but it was fun.  I made this for a friend.

One Block Wonder.  I do not have a picture with borders on!  I do not have this quilt either!

This was a fun quilt, but lots of pieces.  It is called Scarlet Stitches and the block centers are panels.

I finished this UFO!  It is the result of two block exchanges.  I wasn't thrilled with all the blocks I got back when I requested purple and blue, but I added lots of Kaffe black and whites and it turned out to be interesting! We had just a bit of snow when I took the picture.

One of my favorite finishes in a long time!  I saw this quilt pattern on Instagram and loved the low volume look of it.  It was a lot of fun and I am ready for next Christmas since it is Christmas prints!  It is the Chamomile Quilt by Woodberry Way.

My husband's cousin is cleaning things out at their great grandparents home.  She brought over these crocheted pieces along with a crochet hook and thread.  She also brought some old quilt blocks.  I don't enjoy crocheting and then had the urge to make a modern style piece.  I made a checkerboard of bright Snippets fabric, quilted it, and attached the doilies adding a button center.  I then stretched the piece over a 24 X 24 canvas. 

A non quilting friend likes to buy fabric (she said it's addictive!).  This is the third Quilt of Valor style quilt I have made for her.  I had the panel in my stash.  She cut out a bunch of 5 pointed stars, but they did not have a fusible.  505 spray baste to the rescue and I zigzagged around them.  

I have a pink loving friend and she has been going through a lot of medical issues.  She is having surgery in a couple of weeks so I made this quilt from Lori Holt fabrics.  She received it last week and loves it.  I did not have a pattern, just made 6" churn dash blocks and put them in a 12" block and added a piano key border from leftovers.

I saw this beach bundle and thought of a friend that lives in Portland and loves going to the beach.  Her birthday is actually today and the quilted arrived at her house last week.  It is just a lap/throw size.  The bundle came with the panel and I decided on flying geese to use the other beach prints.  I had the two blue framing borders in my stash.

Lots of Quilting and House Flooding

 My last post was on Jan. 10th.  On January 12th my husband called me at work at 12:15.  He said get home now, we have flooding.  My boss sent my co-worker with me and she improvised with all the students for the afternoon.  (22 students K-6)  It turns out a supply line on an upstairs toilet burst and flooded through the main floor and into the basement.  It was a huge mess (still is).  I called the only carpet cleaning service in town and they were able to come out and with their big machines and suck up water and brought fans and dehumidifiers.  We had sheetrock and flooring damage and finally have a contractor ready to start repairs next week.  It's been tough to find someone.  The insurance company was great, they have already paid us for what the adjuster came up with.  

Then we had a second flood last week.  We have a small water heater in the kitchen under a corner cabinet.  It is above my sewing room in the basement.  Yep, it started leaking and water was pouring down on my cutting table.  It is ruined.  Thankfully the ceiling and flooring had not been replaced yet!  So.... upon installation of a new water heater we purchased Friday... we had a third flood in the kitchen under the sink!  I think we are done now.  I am just looking forward to having flooring and walls and ceiling again!

Back to quilting!  I really have gotten a lot done in the last month, even with all the disruptions and disorganization of my house, although not a single bit of actual machine quilting, just piecing.

First off I am doing a Brown Bag Mystery called Double the Fun.  It starts in March, but the participating shops are selling the bags with cutting instructions ahead of time.  You get to see a strip of one fabric and the rest is a mystery!  One of my my bags is a Me and My Sister Design bag and one is a Tula Pink bag.  This should be fun.  Bags are still available online!

I have been doing a block of the month through Your Best Friends Quilt Shop.  It is done on a Ten Sisters design grid and the squares are one inch finished!  

This top is made of strips leftover from the twins quilts I made last fall.  It is a large throw size and will be finished as a donation quilt to a church group with a lot of outreach programs.

I am participating in the Tula Pink Nebula BOM.  Here are the first two months.

This is a block of the week I am doing through Your Best Friend's Quilt Shop.  The owner loves 30's.  I am unsure how this is going together.  I think we are supposed to get 50 blocks.  It is definitely not my style, but the blocks are fun to make.

Dresden quilt - shop sample.  This one was all cut and with the tops all sewn.  I just had to assemble and applique the wedges!

June is almost gone!

Wow, where has time gone?  School got out June 11th and I was ready!  I have been going to work one day a week since to reorganize my room, after already doing the art/supply room.  With such a small school it is amazing how things can get in disarray!  We ended the year with 19 students grades K-6.

I have done quite a bit of sewing, but no actual finished projects, only tops!  I still need to have a basting party and get some tops quilted.

Earlier this year I went to a quilt retreat sponsored by the shop I make samples for.  It was just before all the shutdowns began.  There were shops across the country offering a brown bag mystery.  You could see the focus fabric but that was it.  I purchased two kits, yes crazy me!  The first one is Kaffe fabrics and I had extra of the focus fabric already on hand that made a perfect border.  It is framed in green, hard to see.  The design was very fun.  There are six different white on white backgrounds.

 The other bag contained batiks.  There were six lavendar backgrounds and then three other fabrics.  I am not a yellow/orange person, but the contrast is wonderful!  I used every scrap in the border with random size strips.  These are nice lap/throw size tops.

 I recently made some more shop samples.  This one is fun, I love old pickups and the blue really adds a lot to this fall print/  The center is a panel and the geese are pieced.  The fabric line is Rake and Bake.

This is a cute row quilt, made with some 30's style fabrics for another sample  30's are not normally my style, but this is a cute, bright fun quilt top.

This quilt top is also a sample called Barn Dance and I thought it would be more difficult than it was.  It is made with a reproduction style fabric, again, not my normal fabrics, but for a sample it was interesting to work with.

Now to my projects!  The quilt shop is doing a summer sew along.  They are providing the fabrics for the blocks and setting fabric and you could see the fabric ahead of time.  Every week you get a block kit mailed and the 13th week will be the setting.  I have the first four blocks done.  I told myself I wasn't going to make any more sampler quilts, but the fabrics were so pretty.  The setting/border prints are lemons and very pretty.

For a year I received a BOM from Stitchin Heaven called Mystical Prism.  I had made the first 3 months, but then set it aside.  this weekend I decided to work on it.  I made huge progress and just have borders to go.  In between the outer border blocks is more piecing.   There is one fabric in the BOM I disliked but I told myself I wasn't going to sub anything.  I was a little disappointed some of the fabrics were changed toward the end, but they blend together so I will live with it.
